Kunstinstituut Melly presents contemporary visual art and theory to engage artists and the general public in interpreting culture in context, as much as with the histories of ideas developed over time locally and internationally. Our activities address the most pressing questions of our time. We strongly believe in the positive effect visual art has in society to encourage dreaming, inspire action, enable change, and foster mutual understanding. We invite innovative artists to connect with Rotterdam and introduce the public to artwork never before seen in the Netherlands. By actively collaborating with artists, we create a platform for experiencing fresh perspectives in and about the present; for commissioning and presenting new work that challenges conventions; for discussing art and theory through symposia, publications, and experimental forms of public engagement.
