MaMA, a platform for visual culture and young talent, was founded in 1997 with the explicit goal of bridging gaps between seemingly opposing worlds: the cultural sector and the street, the (art) academy, and a professional career. From MaMa’s inception, the influence of youth and subcultures on contemporary art practice has played a significant role. Since 2019, MaMA annually invites four program makers to take residence in the showroom. They, with the assistance of staff members and external experts, develop an exhibition: from the conceptual phase to the opening and closing, everything is covered.
