The Natural History Museum Rotterdam is an accessible museum for all ages focused on (urban) nature, natural history and the geological past of the Rotterdam region and beyond. With its collection, the museum offers a striking view of the astonishing nature that surrounds us, putting our lives into a new perspective. Employing both seriousness and humour it aims to foster an appreciation for nature and to emphasise the importance of global biodiversity and the biodiverse city. The subject of nature does not have any barriers – nature is everywhere and belongs to everyone, wherever or whoever you are.

The Natural History Museum Rotterdam is a ‘dead serious’ museum that keeps on surprising you. The permanent collection of birds, mammals, fish, insects, shells and plants shows the earth’s biodiversity in all its variety. All fossils that can be found on Dutch soil are on show in the exhibition ‘Picked up, dredged, hammered’. Eye-catchers in the museum are the skeleton of a sperm whale and the skeleton of elephant Ramon. The stories shown in the famous exhibition ‘Dead animal tales’, such as the McFlurry-hedgehog and the Domino Sparrow will have you talking about them for ages.
