Restaurant MIES

Restaurant MIES is located in a monumental Bauhaus building on Mathenesserlaan 145, a place rich in history. Built in 1938 for Instituut Schoevers under the leadership of Mies Lanen—a pioneer in women’s emancipation—it later became home to RTV Rijnmond and, since 2023, to boutique hotel Morgan & Mees Rotterdam. With the opening of MIES in October 2025, a new chapter begins. MIES is an ode to Mies Lanen: free-spirited, forward-thinking and deeply connected to people. Her spirit lives on in a contemporary meeting place where gastronomy, art and community come together. The restaurant forms the heart of the building and is enriched every three months with rotating exhibitions by Rotterdam-based artists. MIES aims to be more than a restaurant or hotel. It is a stage for talent, a space for connection, and a place where past and future strengthen one another. For Rotterdammers—and visitors—seeking more than a good meal: a place that truly connects and shows how hospitality can make a difference, on the plate and beyond.
